Orri mandarins from an Israeli packing line lost flavor acceptability during storage even though total soluble solids remained statistically stable. After six weeks at 5°C followed by five days at 22°C, acceptance was lower than at the initial assessment in all tested handling groups.

In the Orri packinghouse experiment, the tested commercial wax treatment produced shinier fruit but increased ethanol accumulation and off-flavor development during storage. At six weeks the waxed groups’ consumer-acceptance scores were not significantly different from the stored control, although trained-panel off-flavor differences were detectable.
